Leash Control Lesson For Employees

Hey, Lee Hamilton, bestfrienddogtraining.com here to discuss leashes, or more specifically lengths of leashes and proper leash control. The first thing I want to talk about is practicing good leash control! The leash is like the reins of a horse and is one of the major ways to communicate with your dog. If your leash is sloppy and you spend too much time tangled up, chances are the dog is going to take advantage and you will not be successful. So, you want to practice leash handling on a stationary object until you are a leash ninja! The smoother you are at handling the leash the more effective your training sessions will go. Through practice you can develop muscle memory—how you hold your leash, understanding the difference between giving leash and taking in leash and when to do what. Proper leash handling can be overwhelming at first! Combine that with a dog that is trying to give you a tough time, most people will quite before they can even get started. Remember, the better you are at handling your leash, the more successful you and your dog will be. Take the time to practice, think of leash handling as a skill you need to learn, and then move on to handling your dog from there. This is Lee Hamilton, bestfrienddogtraining.com saying as always, until next time, stay obedient my friends!
