Training from man's best friend is private and professional.  This means I work with
your dog and your family, one-on-one in until you are ready for the distractions of
everyday life, then I work with you through that.

First, I start with your dog.  You will be pleased while you watch me teach your dog all
of the basic commands on a leash.  The training is fun to watch, soft touch, and artful
direction.  However my training is obligated toward, which means there is a fair and
just correction of the dog for bad choices.

Once I get your dog doing all of the basic commands on a leash, I then turned that
control over to your entire family.  Now here is where you will find me very unique.
When your family has mastered the basics with your dog, and I will teach you how
these basic commands and principles your dog now possesses apply to day to day
behaviors.  You see lots of dogs walk nicely on a leash.  They will also sit and stay and
lay down while on a leash.  This does not mean they will do any of these things without
a leash.  And it's certainly does not mean that your dog no longer jumps on people or
chews on things or will consistently come when called without a leash.  This is where
all group classes and most other trainers miss it.  The basic obedience is merely a
base to be built on, it is not the goal,  it is just a starting point.  The goal is a well
behaved pet, which is enjoyable to be around and travel with.  This is the goal I have
for all my clients, and I guarantee you can have this with your special dog.

The Basics.

The basic obedience heel, sit, stay and down on a leash is just a base to build on,
allow me to explain.  While formally teaching obedience on a leash your dog is actually
learning far more than just the basic commands, your dog is learning very important
foundational principles.

First of all, in becoming obligated to follow you on a leash, your dog begins to view
you as a leader.  Dogs are pack animals and unless they view you as a leader within
their lives and above them in the pecking order, they feel no obligation to mind you.  A
dog can have all the feelings for you in the world.  They can love you to death but feel
no obligation to mind you at all.  Taking care of a dog, living and playing with them,
builds a relationship, training gives you respect.  So now we have a dog that loves and
respects you.

Next, through formal obedience, your dog begins to understand phrase as
encouragement to behavior.  Praise is the verbal "good dog".  But it is also physical
padding and touching.  Praise can be treats, as well as to voice.  All of these combine
to the motivations for good choices and behaviors.

Last but not least, your dog begins to understand verbal as well as physical correction
as discouragement to behavior.  This is what separates motivational training from
obligatory obedience.  Motivational training is simply put, training that only allows
praise.  But no correction.  The sharp verbal "bad dog" or "no" is considered a verbal
correction.  This means if you do not immediately stop that behavior a physical
correction, a tug on a leash and collar will follow.
I would never physically correct
a dog for doing something he does not know is wrong.
 However; once a dog
knows a behavior is undesirable and chooses to do it anyway.  There must be a
physical correction, make no mistake about it.  If Spot wants the dog across the street
more than he wants the biscuit out of your hand.  He will run across the street.
Obligation to a fair and consistent physical correction, consistently changes that
choice.

In review three important concepts are learned in formal obedience.  You as a leader,
praise as encouragement and correction as discouragement.  It is the application of
these principles to your dogs every day life that makes a difference in your dog's day
to day life behaviors, and this is where I am unique in my trade.

With your cooperation, I can give you a dog that does not jump on company,
or chew on things, which will use the bathroom outside and come when called
very consistently.  A short a wonderful well mannered pet.  If you want more say
check dog, or a Frisbee dog, search and rescue or a whole mint family protection.

It all starts with the basics, and the basics all start with the call.
